Happy Monday everyone! As mentioned in last week’s column, the Latin American Business Aviation Conference took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil at the beginning of the week and, as usual, AIN Online had full coverage of the event. Here’s some highlights –

  • LABACE Opening Sees Welcome Optimism

“LABACE 2019 opened with assurances of the importance of general aviation to the aviation industry, and to Brazil, by government authorities on the ground and in the air.” (AIN Online)

  • Cold Weather, Hot Prospects Mark LABACE 2019

“How is LABACE 2019? Trying to ask ABAG chairman Leonardo Fiuza is difficult because as president of Textron Aviation representative TAM Aviação Executiva, his time is fully taken up with customers.” (AIN Online)

  • Brazil Cracks Down on ‘Pirate’ Charter

“Air charters by companies not authorized to perform them, private aircraft making flights for payment, or authorized charter operators advertising flights on a Part 135-compliant aircraft and the client finding a different, non-compliant aircraft when he reaches the ramp are all part of the “pirate” charter problem in Brazil.” (AIN Online)

  • Legal Framework for Fractional Shares Coming in Brazil

“Fractional shares of business aircraft are a growing market in Brazil, despite or perhaps because of the difficult economy, because they allow buyers to fly a larger aircraft with a smaller capital investment.” (AIN Online)

  • G600 Flies To LABACE Ready To Serve

“On August 8, just prior to the LABACE show, Gulfstream handed over the first example of its large-cabin, long-range G600 to an undisclosed U.S. customer. The manufacturer is displaying this aircraft model again at LABACE, where it made its Brazilian debut last year, alongside a G650ER and a G280.” (AIN Online)

  • Praetor 500 Exceeds Certification Goals

“This week’s award of the ANAC type certificate for Embraer’s new Praetor 500 midsize business jet has highlighted the aircraft’s performance capabilities.” (AIN Online)

And, of course, some non-LABACE related news –

  • Dale Earnhardt, Others Escape Fiery Citation Crash

“Retired race car driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr., 44, his wife, infant daughter, a dog, and the two pilots emerged without serious injuries after their Cessna Citation Latitude overran Runway 24 yesterday at Elizabethton Municipal Airport, Bristol, Tennessee.” (AIN Online)

  • Gulfstream Gets Kudos for Use and Promotion of Biofuels

“The Business Intelligence Group presented Gulfstream Aerospace a 2019 Sustainability Leadership Award for the airframer’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) initiatives, Gulfstream announced this week.” (AIN Online)

  • NBAA To Honor Barrington Irving’s Inspiration To Youth

“Barrington Irving, who in 2007 became the youngest pilot to solo around the world in a single-engine airplane, will be recognized during NBAA’s upcoming convention for his continued effort to inspire young people to pursue aviation and aerospace careers.” (AIN Online)

  • Pilatus Tests PC-12s with Autothrottle, EEC

“Pilatus Aircraft appears to be working on an upgrade to its PC-12 turboprop single that entails a higher-power Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6E-67XP engine with autothrottle and a single power lever, as well as new five-blade Hartzell propeller with electronically controlled hub, according to public information available from the FAA, EASA, and Swiss civil aviation office.” (AIN Online)
